Why Vegan
Dining Out
Shopping
In recent years there has been an expansion in vegan-friendly products and resources,
especially online where vegan businesses are becoming ever more visible. However for most
of us it is still where we live, where we do our weekly shopping and socialising that impacts
most on the choices we need to make as vegans in a meat-eating society. For us that area is
Warrington so this website is about being vegan in Warrington.
We expect the direction of travel on this website to take some interesting turns but the first
task will be to look at shopping and dining out - no mean feat in a large town. The aim is not
only to see what is available for vegan diners but to raise the profile of veganism and
encourage greater choice. We think being vegan today is similar to being vegetarian some
years ago when it was a struggle to get acceptable, let alone good, vegetarian food beyond
London. There is one difference though: provision for vegetarians, although by no means
perfect, is now mainstream and from this base we can show providers how easy it is to
'veganise' vegetarian food. This will benefit not only vegans but anyone who wishes to vary
their diet for whatever reason. Vegan food can be enjoyed by anyone be they meat-eaters,
vegetarians or people who are lactose-intolerant. It's also a great way of catering for people
with different dietary requirements because of their religious beliefs. Vegan food is acceptable
to observant Jews, Muslims and Hindus hence it is commonly provided at state banquets as a
way of surmounting difficulties in meeting everyone's requirements.
